East Midlands innovators invited to sign-up for free product design workshops at Space Park Leicester

East Midlands innovators invited to sign-up for free product design workshops at Space Park Leicester.

Delivered by experts from the University of Leicester’s STAR Accelerator programme, the free product development workshops are open to start-ups, SMEs and entrepreneurs interested in finding out more about ways to develop new and innovative products, components and tooling across all manufacturing sectors including space.

Starting on the 20 th and 21st of June, those interested can sign-up for one of five two-day workshops taking place over the next seven months.

Sam Nixon, Prototype Systems Design Engineer for STAR Accelerator at the University of Leicester, said: “These workshops have been designed to provide a great introduction to product development, CAD and 3D printing for makers, entrepreneurs and start-ups.”

Other dates available include: 16-17 August, 12-13 October, 5-6 December and the 30-31 January.

STAR Accelerator Principal Investigator, Professor Mark Sims added: “We look forward to welcoming innovators from across the East Midlands to Space Park Leicester and showing and discussing with them the latest technological developments and the problems of, and issues associated with, developing new or improving existing products.”

The STAR Accelerator, is funded by the University of Leicester and the European Regional Development Fund. It provides the opportunity to work with space and engineering experts at the University of Leicester to accelerate the design, development, validation, and testing of a new product, prototype or demonstrator or tooling using state-of-the-art knowledge, design and manufacturing capabilities and facilities.

This includes:

  • Computer Aided Design
  • Precision Machining and Measurement
  • 3D Printing (Additive Manufacturing) in metals, composites and wax
  • Prototype Build, Electronic Prototype Design or Build, Prototype Sensor Design or Build, Testing and Fault Finding.
