Leading UK automotive engineering consultancy earns recognition for pioneering work in the development of net zero mobility

  • Virtual engineering approach addresses the full vehicle lifecycle, including design and development
  • Organisation identified as a key enabler and catalyst of a net zero approach for new market entrants as well as established automakers and tier suppliers
  • Exacting standards to net zero pursued across all aspects of the business operation

Nuneaton, Warwickshire, 7 May 2024. HORIBA MIRA, one of Europe’s leading automotive engineering consultancies, has received recognition from His Majesty The King with the Grant of Appointment of a King’s Award for Enterprise for Sustainable Development.

The award, which recognises outstanding UK businesses, has been made to acknowledge HORIBA MIRA’s achievements as an enabler and catalyser of the automotive industry’s path toward net zero vehicles.

With its engineers designing systems and services for future mobility including electrified propulsion systems and connected & autonomous systems, the company’s skills are enabling decarbonisation across the automotive industry – supported by a track record of capital investment in new technologies to accelerate the transition.

And although unseen by many drivers, HORIBA MIRA is also leading the way for the industry to remove up to 40 tonnes of carbon generated in the typical design and development process of a vehicle before it reaches the showroom through virtualisation of engineering disciplines.

As much as enabling the globalised automaker industry and its tiered supply chain to make the transition to net zero vehicles, HORIBA MIRA’s 80 years of automotive know-how is also helping to de-risk the evolution of a new generation of net zero mobility developers, with six of its clients gaining unicorn status in the past five years.

Alongside its commitment to invest in and develop new clean engineering technologies and processes, the company has dedicated itself to a 20-point plan for its 850-acre technology campus to reach net zero for scope 1 & 2 emissions by 2030 and scope 3 by 2040. These initiatives range from on-site energy production using solar arrays and hydrogen electrolysers, to zero waste to landfill and developing 28 acres of wild meadows on site.

MIRA Technology Park, situated in the centre of the UK’s car industry, is home to more than 40 new and established car companies and automotive engineering firms. With HORIBA MIRA at its heart, the company is helping to drive a cluster of organisations committed to reducing the carbon emissions arising from road transport across the world.
