Midlands Engine Chairman and Chinese Ambassador meet to address mutual priorities

Midlands Engine Chairman, Sir John Peace, and Director Rachael Greenwood joined the Chinese Ambassador to the UK for a virtual meeting this week (06 October).

Focusing on the longstanding civic relationships between China and the Midlands, the meeting addressed matters of mutual priority for regional cooperation, including; trade and investment, climate change and shared challenges around health.

Highlighting the video address by the Chinese President at the UN General Assembly (22 September), on carbon neutrality, Sir John outlined the breadth of green capabilities in the Midlands and existing Midlands-China regional cooperation projects in this space.

Sir John also updated the Ambassador on the Fifth UK-China Regional Leaders Summit, a significant UK-China event awarded to the Midlands for 2020, which has been postponed due to the on-going pandemic.
