The priorities of the Midlands Engine Observatory in 2021 were the topic of conversation at the latest meeting of the Midlands Engine Research Partnership.

With areas of work such as Green Growth, Digital infrastructure, Transport and Internationalisation at the top of the agenda this year, the Research Partnership discussed how best to pool their expertise to meet these new priorities for the Midlands.

Meeting on a quarterly basis, The Research Partnership is a forum for academics who conduct research for the Midlands Engine Observatory and attendees include representatives from universities from across the region.

By bringing partners together these events allow for the scoping of areas of research needed by the Midlands Engine, steer research and collaboration, secure external funding for projects and contribute to key policy reviews and strategy formulation for the Midlands Engine.

Recent research commissioned by the Observatory includes work to understand the state of regional supply chains, including the impact of Covid-19 and the UK’s exit from the European Union. The findings of these projects will help inform policy-making decisions as well as add to the burgeoning knowledge base of supply chains in the Midlands Engine region. They will be shared with the wider stakeholder community at the Midlands Engine Observatory Quarterly Economic Briefing in April.
