Sir John Peace recently visited Acres Engineering’s factory and offices in Melbourne, Derbyshire. Acres Engineering are established as a leader in delivering creative engineered solutions.

One of the key discussion points during the visit was Acres’ involvement in the Defence, Hydrogen and Space sectors. As the UK pivots toward sustainable energy, hydrogen is emerging as a key player in the clean energy transition. Acres has been developing capabilities to support this transformation, aligning with the Midlands Engine’s mission to drive growth and sustainable innovation across the region.

In addition to hydrogen, Acres discussed the pioneering research that’s taking place at Diamond Light Source, a national synchrotron facility. Acres would be proud to support projects in advanced scientific research and looks forward to the opportunities that  may arise from our involvement with such prestigious facilities.

As an SME committed to the Armed Forces, Acres is dedicated to helping tackle some of the UK’s most pressing future defence challenges. Luke Parker shared his vision of Acres Engineering’s role in the national security landscape. Emphasising how small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the UK can contribute agility and specialised expertise. Acres’ involvement in the defence sector speaks to our dedication to innovation, quality, and national service, and they look forward to playing a role in addressing these vital needs for our country.

Sir John’s visit provided a fantastic opportunity for him to meet some of Acres’ apprentices. Acres is deeply committed to supporting the next generation of engineers, and they were proud to showcase the skills, dedication, and energy the apprentices bring to the team. Sir John was able to interact with them, hear their stories, and see examples of the exceptional work they’re doing here at Acres.

In addition to technical advancements, they shared with Sir John some of Acres’ ongoing corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities. Acres believes in giving back to our community, supporting local causes, and creating a positive impact beyond our business operations.

Sir John Peace’s visit was a reminder of the strength of collaboration between industry and regional advocates like the Midlands Engine. The enthusiasm and support he shared for Acres Engineering’s goals left Acres feeling motivated and ready to keep pushing boundaries. With a shared vision for innovation and community, Acres are excited about future opportunities to contribute to the Midlands’ growth, strengthen the UK’s national security, and support scientific breakthroughs.
