Today (21 September), environmental, academic and public and private sector leaders assembled for the first Midlands Engine Green Growth Board meeting – an important milestone as we work together to shape a cleaner, greener, better future for our region.

The hugely insightful discussion ranged from green finance and supporting our region’s SMEs, to a pan-regional strategy for hydrogen technologies and how wider green growth activity might complement green tourism and sustainable destination work.

The Midlands is at the forefront of delivering world-leading low carbon innovation and there is clearly phenomenal appetite across the Midlands Engine Partnership to activate even more opportunities – delivering economic, social and environmental benefits for our region’s places, businesses and communities.

The Midlands Engine Green Growth Board will co-ordinate the delivery of the Ten Point Plan for Green Growth in the Midlands Engine as well as overseeing and tracking our region’s progress in the shift to low carbon.

Launched in July 2021, The Ten Point Plan is an ambitious and ground-breaking plan that will benefit every part of our region and accelerate the whole country’s path to net zero.

It sets out our unified pan-regional vision for green growth with the potential to deliver: 36% reduction in carbon emissions; more than £24.2 billion GVA; and 196,000 high-value jobs by 2041.

The Board will meet twice per quarter and is chaired by Peter Ware, Partner and Head of Government at Browne Jacobson:

Having worked for over a year on the development of the Ten Point Plan for Green Growth in the Midlands Engine, it is great to now officially launch the Green Growth Board.

The Board represents the breadth of the Midlands Engine Partnership and will be crucial to help mobilise and deliver the actions presented in the Ten Point Plan as we embark together in leading the Green Industrial Revolution for our region and the UK.

The next meeting of the Midlands Engine Green Growth Board will take place on 25 November 2021.
