The Midlands Engine Partnership held its first ‘Deep Dive’ roundtable to explore the investment potential of the region’s Nuclear cluster, convening expertise from within the sector as well as investors and public sector partners.

Held at the University of Derby’s Enterprise Campus on 4th December, the discussion was convened by the Midlands Engine Partnership, Midlands Nuclear, and the University of Derby.

The series of deep dives – co-convened with industry bodies – aims to bring together businesses, academia and supporting bodies from within the cluster, with policymakers, to identify a clear set of priority asks and interventions and develop a compelling investment narrative in order to support the cluster in attracting further investment.

Much of the discussion centred around the 4 main ecosystems within the cluster – investment, business, talent and innovation.

This Deep Dive took place in the context of the development of UK Government’s approach to supporting place-based Clusters through the Industrial Strategy and Local Growth Plans being produced by MCAs/LAs.

This Deep Dive follows the cluster project led by Midlands Engine throughout 2023 which identified 30 key clusters in the region with significant potential to attract new investment.

Upcoming Cluster Deep Dives include:

  • Aerospace – 8th January 2025
  • Space technology – 22nd January 2025
  • Cyber & Defence – 30th January 2025
  • Medtech – 2nd April 2025
  • Agritech – TBC
  • Hydrogen – TBC

If you would like to attend any of the upcoming Deep Dives, please email grant.wardle@midlandsengine.org to express your interest.
