Space Park, Leicester, is now under construction – bringing academia and industry together to create an end-to-end satellite design, manufacture and data processing facility. The potential for the local economy and the Midlands Engine is massive, driving growth and creating thousands of jobs.

Work on Space Park, Leicester, got underway earlier this month, with completion expected in early 2021.

In January, the Rt Hon Chris Skidmore MP, Minister of State for Universities, Science, Research and Innovation, broke ground on the new Space Park, alongside Vice Chancellor Nishan Canagarajah from the University of Leicester. The new Space Park is just a few hundred yards from the National Space Centre, which will continue to inspire young people from all across the region to pursue an interest in astrology and science. Whether through the University of Leicester, or through space apprenticeships, perhaps these young people of Leicester will be the UK’s engineers and scientists of the future.

Providing state-of-the-art, hi-tech facilities for research, development and manufacturing, it will bring together academia and industry, housing capabilities and companies covering an end-to-end capability, from satellite design and engineering, through to downstream data and its applications. With high-profile aerospace and technology companies already signed up, the potential for the local economy is massive, driving growth and opening up job opportunities.
