We were delighted to host the Midlands Engine at Mettis Aerospace recently along with representatives from the Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership and 5G Consortium. We’re proud to be a Midlands-based aerospace company that is competing successfully globally. It was great to demonstrate how we’ve been growing through investment, new technologies, automation, responsive leadership and our dynamic workforce.

The Midlands is home to 810,000 large and small businesses and the Midlands Engine, led by Sir John Peace, is dedicated to generating added value for the whole of the Midlands, its communities and the wider UK.

The Midlands Engine partnership brings together public sector partners and businesses to complement the activity of Local and Combined Authorities, Local Enterprise Partnerships, universities, businesses and others. It wants the region to flourish through increased productivity and prosperity for communities, enhanced mobility and digital connectivity, with a vibrant and innovative private sector recognised worldwide as an excellent opportunity for trade and investment.

During the visit, we showed the group our facilities including our state-of-the-art laboratory, extensive forging operations and new factory which is currently gearing up for production trials.

We had productive discussions around many of the areas of business we are passionate about including our £25 million investment programme which includes one of the most powerful presses in Europe and our new factory, R&D, digital transformation and skills.

We stressed that our people are at the heart of our success and that’s why we are always investing in developing our talented workforce. We deliver 250 training days per month to develop technical and leadership skills, share expertise, and take on new apprentices every year. We are growing in numbers, with thirty new jobs created recently.

Looking to the future, we shared details about how we are actively gearing up for changes in the market and making sure Mettis remains competitive and at the forefront of innovation.

Jeremy Cieslik, Mettis’ COO, said: “It was a pleasure to host the Midlands Engine at Mettis Aerospace. Sir John Peace has an inspirational vision for the Midlands and it was encouraging to discover the many synergies between our goals during the visit.”

Sir John Peace, Chairman of the Midlands Engine, said:

Mettis is an outstanding example of a successful Midlands company at its best, and I was particularly impressed by its international strategy, it’s excellent and dedicated workforce and the opportunities the company has for future growth. I enjoyed my visit immensely and I would like to thank everyone I met for making me feel so welcome.
