The findings from research into the understanding of regional supply chains, commissioned by Midlands Engine and conducted by partners in Midlands universities will be the focus of the second Midlands Engine Observatory Quarterly Economic Briefing.

Designed to provide accurate and timely information on a range of topics, this latest Briefing will focus on the threats and opportunities to pan-regional supply chains and will include:

  • A short film from the Director of the Observatory Professor Delma Dwight on the recent performance of the Midlands Engine economy
  • A systemic review of the state of the Midlands’ supply chains from Professor Janet Godsell of the Warwick Manufacturing Group
  • A report on the anti-Covid-19 capabilities underpinning resilient supply chains by Professor Charbel Jose Chiappetta Jabbour from the University of Lincoln
  • The leads of five research projects recently commissioned by the Midlands Engine Observatory, including Professor Alex de Ruyter from Birmingham City University and Dr Thornsten Kampmann of The Manufacturing Technology Centre, taking part in a roundtable discussion alongside Charlotte Horobin from Make UK and Dr Andrew Mair, Chief Executive of Midlands Aerospace Alliance.

This latest Quarterly Economic Briefing will be delivered virtually by the Midlands Engine Observatory on 28 April from 11:00 am.

The event is open to anyone wanting to learn more about the health of the Midlands economy, particularly those working in economic and business development within local authorities, local enterprise partnerships, universities and Government, along with political leaders, advisors and regional businesses.

The Midlands is the only region in England to benefit from a pan-regional Observatory and is funded by both the Midlands Engine and partnership contribution.

The Midlands Engine Observatory provides comprehensive and contemporary data, analysis, and intelligence on the whole of the Midlands economy to inform regional and national level policy and projects.
