There were more than 40 events within the Midlands programme, including panel debates and showcase presentations featuring approximately 100 speakers.

Based in a pavilion for the first time, the Midlands UK delegation featured more than 40 organisations from the private sector, working in collaboration with the public sector to promote the region.

Private sector companies ranged from property agents to developers, consultancies and architects.

Investment opportunities around the Midland’s transport infrastructure were a draw for many MIPIM delegates. An event looking at the potential of HS2, including the Birmingham Curzon station was full, as was a panel discussion focused on how HS2 will impact the economic performance whole region.

Other popular events included presentations about major schemes from the Marches to Lincolnshire that can have a huge economic impact on the regional economy.

The 19 biggest Midlands investment opportunities worth £8bn were presented in an Investment Portfolio produced and launched by the Department for International Trade.

Councillor John Clancy, Leader of Birmingham City Council, said: “The Midlands Engine’s presence at MIPIM sends a powerful message to global investors that the region is a strong, cohesive area, which is committed to becoming more connected, productive and innovative. We are competing even more strongly than ever before to secure investment that will help to create new jobs, homes and economic wealth for local people.”

Sir John Peace, Chairman of the Midlands Engine, said:

“The Midlands Engine Investment Portfolio demonstrates our ambition. We have some truly incredible projects available this year; whether it is investments that have been resulting from HS2 or smaller projects that will deliver real change, economic growth and jobs for of our cities.

“The work we are doing in the region is a clear sign to the international investor community that the UK is open for business and that the Midlands is at the heart of this offer.”
