Read moreThe Midlands Engine Partnership is today publishing the Midlands Engine Vision for Growth, an ambitious response to the Government’s Midlands Engine Strategy.
The Partnership’s core purpose is to create a Midlands Engine that powers the UK economy and competes on the world stage. The Midlands strategic location, strong sense of identity and reputation as the beating heart of the national economy will ensure the UK’s future as a global economic power.
The Partnership’s ambition is to close the GVA gap to match or exceed the national average and add £54 billion to the Midlands and UK economies by 2030. The vision sets out five investment priorities, which will accelerate productivity across the region and power the growth of an already £200 billion economy to the benefit of UK plc.
Sir John Peace, Chair of the Midlands Engine, says;
“Today marks a key moment for the Midlands. By improving our productivity and driving economic growth we can power the country’s post-Brexit economy, not just for the benefit of Midlands but for the whole UK.”
Communities Secretary Sajid Javid says;
“The Midlands is essential to our national economic success and we have an ambitious vision for the region. That’s why we committed £392m to the region through the Local Growth Fund earlier this year. Engagement with local partners will be crucial to its success and the Midlands Engine Partnership is putting local leaders, businesses and residents in the driving seat. I’m delighted to be working with them on the bold Vision for Growth that has been set out today.”
