Malvern Hills Science Park (MHSP) has announced that it is launching a new subsidiary company ‘nexGworx’, evolving from the Worcestershire 5G Testbed (W5G) project, to accelerate its vision of smart manufacturing and digital innovation across industry 4.0, including the advanced manufacturing and health and social care sectors.

The new company will build on the testbed’s success to date in achieving the UK’s first live 5G factory installation.

The development of nexGworx will enable W5G to accelerate through the next phase of its development, moving it to a sustainable, scalable footing by expanding its scope to include new industry 4.0 enabled use cases.

These include building on past successes with local engineering companies such as Worcester Bosch and Yamazaki Mazak, as well as working with the county’s technology accelerator BetaDen, and forming new relationships with regional, national and international scale Research Technology Organisations and industrial partners.

Building on its relationship developed with the W5G Testbed over the last three years, BT has committed its expertise as strategic technology partner across 5G Private Networks, Internet of Things (IoT), data analytics, cyber security and mobile edge computing.

The combination of these technologies will make intelligent, dynamic and fully automated manufacturing processes a reality, underpinning a compelling and ever evolving testbed as a service proposition.

Alan White, nexGworx Chairman and CEO of Malvern Hills Science Park, said:

I’m delighted to announce the launch of nexGworx, the expertise and on site 5G testbed as a service has already benefitted some of our existing Science Park tenants. As the Science Park continues to grow, having nexGworx on site has the ability to attract new companies to the area and support local start-ups and SMEs to grow.

Mark Stansfeld, Chair of the Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership, said:

It’s fantastic to see the vision we set out for 5G in 2017 and the hard work undertaken by many partners within the Worcestershire 5G project being realised and sustained to leave a lasting legacy in Worcestershire.

I hope that other Worcestershire companies and those from across the UK engage with nexGworx to understand the productivity gains that can be found from new technologies such as 5G and are able to grow as a result.

nexGworx is keen to work with more companies across Worcestershire and beyond to further explore how 5G Private Networks can be used to transform their operations.
There are a number of ways a business can engage with 5G with services ranging from bring your own devices and professional reviews of a business’s facilities, to fully supported trials and even building a testbed to your site.
