The Midlands is an exemplar region for health and life sciences, home to the largest MedTech cluster in the UK and boasting strengths across a whole range of disciplines; from ultra-high field imaging to addressing health inequalities amongst our communities.

Our region boasts over 1200 businesses operating within life sciences and supports 33,000 highly skilled jobs.

Our latest publication – Midlands Engine Health: A unified voice for health and life sciences in our region – provides an overview of not only the health and life sciences industry but also the aims of Midlands Engine Health in championing and amplifying our region’s unique strengths to UK Government and to international investors.

Working to present a unified vision of our vast sector strengths and immense potential, Midlands Engine Health works closely with a range of national stakeholders, such as the Department for Health and Social Care, Office for Life Sciences, as well as UK Research and Innovation bodies such as Innovate UK, National Institute for Health Research, the Department for Business Energy and Industrial Strategy, and the Department for International Trade.

Midlands Engine Health is supported by Midlands Innovation Health, a partnership between the seven Midlands Medical and Healthcare Schools, and Midlands Health Alliance, a regional health research collaboration embedded within the NHS.

By working collaboratively Midlands Engine Health is working to realise a multitude of ambitions, driving investment and improving the lives of our residents to ensure the midlands is a healthier and wealthier region.
