The Midlands Engine Partnership hosted a Pavilion for the very first time at this year’s UK Real Estate Infrastructure Investment Forum [21-23 May], providing regional partners with a platform to showcase their investment propositions, worth in excess of £42bn, to a global audience.

Local authority, business and university representatives hosted panel discussions at the Pavilion, presented investment opportunities from across the Midlands; from Worcestershire and Staffordshire in the west, to Derby and Greater Lincolnshire in the east.

Other partners holding sessions in the Pavilion included East Midlands Freeport, Data City, the Property Podcast and PFM who will be presenting a new regional bond proposal to finance green projects across the Midlands.

An updated Investment Portfolio worth £42bn+

The priority propositions showcased at UKREiiF this year make up the Midlands Investment Portfolio.

Since its inception in 2022, the Midlands Investment Portfolio has acted as a focal point for prospective investors, including Goods Yard in Stoke-on-Trent, due to be completed in 2025 and currently seeking occupiers for a mix of spaces available across its four beautiful buildings.

Newly added propositions for 2024 include: St George’s’ development site in Wolverhampton city centre; Nottingham Studios, home to the recently launched R&I hub; and Sandwell’s ‘Grove Lane Masterplan’, a key regeneration area delivering more than 800 new homes in Smethwick.

Altogether, the updated portfolio showcases the 90 most significant capital investment opportunities in the Midlands across a range of sectors, with a Gross Development Value well in excess of £42bn.

Presenting a clear, easy-to-use tool for investors, the sites within the Portfolio have the potential to create 220,000 jobs, driving economic and social prosperity across the Midlands region.

Midlands Investment Reception

Taking place on 21st May in the African and Asian Gallery of the Royal Armouries in Leeds, the Midlands Investment Reception was the launchpad for a major new investment campaign – ‘Invest in UK R&D’.

Featuring a ministerial announcement, the campaign presents the collective investment propositions of the region’s 20 universities across agri-tech, creative and digital, health and life sciences, transport technology and zero carbon energy.

Sir John Peace, Chairman of Midlands Engine said:

“I am delighted that for UKREiiF 2024 our partnership has its own Pavilion – giving our partners the space they need to shine a spotlight on their place within our region. 17 upper tier authorities make up the Midlands Engine and it is a rare opportunity that so many have come together in one place, to tell their stories and put these proud places in front of investors from across the world.

“Outside of the Pavilion, I also look forward immensely to meeting and catching up with other partners – hearing how their projects are developing and driving growth and prosperity, not just for the Midlands, but the whole UK.

“I would also like to pay tribute to all of the Midlands Engine partners who have contributed to the Midlands Investment Portfolio. It has proved a valuable resource for those looking to encourage investment into the region over the past year, and this updated edition for 2024 will continue to shine a spotlight on the exceptional investment landscape here in the Midlands. There is no doubt that the propositions contained within this Portfolio have the potential to bring about major positive changes for the region and its people.”

Roger Mendonça, Chief Executive of the Midlands Engine Partnership, commented:

“UKREiiF has quickly established itself as the UK’s preeminent annual investment event. In 2024, more Midlands Engine partners than ever are looking to seize the opportunity to showcase the exceptional economic strengths and investment opportunities that make the Midlands – a region that 11 million people call home – such a rewarding place to invest.”
